{"id":5,"date":"2014-03-16T12:48:03","date_gmt":"2014-03-16T12:48:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/new.croydonsailingclub.co.uk\/?p=5"},"modified":"2014-05-10T13:03:19","modified_gmt":"2014-05-10T13:03:19","slug":"general","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.croydonsailingclub.co.uk\/?p=5","title":{"rendered":"Push the Boat Out for Open Day 2014"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>We&#8217;re pleased to announce that this year&#8217;s Open Day will be on Sunday, 18 May 2014.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Come along between the hours of 11 am and 2 pm<\/strong> \u00a0when members will be present to take you and family members out on a taster sail. It&#8217;s an ideal opportunity to find \u00a0what the club has \u00a0to offer and meet its members. A majority of \u00a0Sailing Clubs throughout the UK are holding \u00a0a <strong>Push the Boat Out Day<\/strong> over this particular weekend \u00a0as it provides the perfect opportunity to encourage people to get down to their local sailing venue, have a go and find out how just easy it is to get involved in the sport\u00a0and is supported by the Royal Yachting Association ( RYA).<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">\u00a0The boat park gates will be open and \u00a0activities for families will be taking place there :-<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">Taster sails across the lake <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">Make a model boat and race it at the end of the afternoon, fastest boat to the buoy wins a\u00a0prize.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">Try you hand at manoeuvring the tiller to &#8221; Go About or Gybe&#8221; on a simulator boat in the boat park. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">Design and colour your own sail<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">\u00a0Learn the language of sailing -try to name all the parts of a dinghy.<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Take home \u00a0RYA souvenirs \u00a0of your visit.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">Refreshments\u00a0 on sale and a bric-a-brac\u00a0stall provided by Upper Norwood Association Community Care<strong>.<\/strong> <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There will be an opportunity to<span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">\u00a0sign up for a L<strong>earn to Sail<\/strong> course to start in the following weeks. We do not charge for your sailing experience\u00a0 but anyone who wishes to buy\u00a0 a raffle ticket for the Draw at the end of the day will help raise funds towards our forthcoming year racing Trophies Fund.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">Norwood lake is\u00a0o<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.5em;\">ne of the smallest sailing areas in the UK but located in the heart of London in a Croydon park. It is a good, safe place\u00a0 to start sailing \u00a0for families and adult individuals who live locally. Our club is developing to cater for the needs of local residents and offers excellent value for money.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>All the equipment\u00a0 needed will be provided including a buoyancy aid. It\u2019s best to turn up with some warm clothes, a pair of old shoes and a waterproof coat as it\u2019s nearly always cooler out on the water than on the shore. If the wind is light or you\u2019re in a more stable steady boat then you\u2019ll only get a few splashes! There is no charge but it would help us to plan the day\u00a0 if you register\u00a0 your interest\u00a0 by email <a href=\"mailto:secretary@croydonsailingclub.co.uk\">secretary@croydonsailingclub.co.uk<\/a> or phone 02084059959.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Croydon Council \u00a0have funded our Club to train instructors and develop so that it can offer a\u00a0 learn to sail programme and get people of all ages and backgrounds to experience what it is like to sail on inland\u00a0waters.
